JOB PURPOSE
  • To support the Board of Directors in the execution of their oversight over the management of Uganda Re.
  • To give regular direction to the Legal and Compliance function/operations of Uganda Re.
  • Overall in- charge of Human Resource and Administration requirements of the company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Company Secretarial Responsibilities;
  • Develop and promote best Corporate Governance practices for adoption and implementation by the Board and Management.
  • Provide effective company secretarial services to the Board.
  • Providing cost effective legal and compliance advisory services to Board and Management.
  • Ensure compliance with the regulatory regime governing the operations of Uganda Re, including submitting all periodic reports required by the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda.
  • Maintain an accurate and safe electronic record of all Uganda Re‘s Assets and securities.
  • Provide technical legal support to business and
  • Operations divisions and ensure timely provision of legal due diligence to achieve set targets.
  • Effectively manage, source and monitor external legal services and ensure effective representation in the Courts of Law.

HR & Admin Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies and strategies for staffing in the Company; staff performance management; HR & Admin goals and strategic objectives;
  • Develop HR Plans including – reports on staffing issues and changes including succession plans;
  • Prepare and follow budgets for HR & Admin operations; Design and oversee admin systems including in-coming and out-going company mail / registry; 
  • Design and manage procurement of items required by the Company; 
  • Design and oversee guest and staff welfare processes; 
  • Design and oversee operation of the Company calendar; 
  • Design and oversee implementation of the Company’s image and branding;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer

Person Specifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelors of Law (Honors) Degree
  • Postgraduate diploma in Legal Practice
  • LLM, MBA, ICSA will be added advantage
  • Technical and professional knowledge and practice of insurance essential.
  • A minimum of 7 years experience with 3-5 in a senior managerial position in a reputable insurance or similar financial entity or umbrella trade organization in the private sector.
  • Demonstrate experience in Company secretarial practices and corporate governance
  • Sound understanding of the Insurance environment within and outside Uganda
  • Applicants should be in the range of 29 -45 years of age.

Duration of appointment:
A 3 year renewable Contract subject to a probationary period.
