Summary:
Uganda Tree Resources Ltd (UTRL) was established in Uganda by Uganda Gatsby Trust to improve tree productivity through integration of biotechnology techniques with traditional propagation systems. We aim to make a significant contribution to the improvement of forest conservation and production through technologies that are environmentally friendly, socially acceptable, economically viable and culturally compatible.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will have overall responsibility for the strategic and operational direction of the company. In particular, you will deliver on the production and sale of plantlets for the Uganda market including the efficient management of the nursery sites. You will perform financial, strategic and operation analysis of the company as well as develop and manage the economic and social impact of the business to the different segments of the market.  The financial sustainability of UTRL will be your responsibility.
Description:
  • Deliver profitability and growth targets
  • Plan and coordinate production of plantlets to meet client orders.
  • Manage product pricing, distribution and marketing.
  • Engage with stakeholders of the forestry sector in Uganda
o   Communicate company values and targets
o   Coordinate collaboration efforts
  • Prepare and submit to the Board company budgets and production forecasts as well as periodic performance and financial reports.
  • Manage and motivate company employees
  • Manage company assets, stock and funds.
  • Prepare investment proposals for expansion and submit to the Board for approval of capital.
Requirements:
         A first degree in Forestry or related fields with post graduate training or experience in business management.
         Demonstrable experience in project management included proposal development, budgeting and budgetary control, fundraising, implementation and monitoring and evaluation
         Experience of nursery development and management
         Proven people management experience
         Experience in business accounting and marketing would be a definite advantage.
         Experience of working with stakeholders in the forestry sector will also be a definite advantage
