The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Uganda Program is part of the Lutheran World Federation Department for World Service (LWF-DWS), an
international humanitarian and development agency. LWF Uganda works to reduce people’s vulnerability, supporting them to realize their potential, to build on their assets, and to respond to their own problems and needs. LWF Uganda currently has five areas of operation in Pader, Kitgum, Katakwi, Sembabule, Kampala and Kamwenge Districts.
LWF Uganda seeks to recruit dynamic, innovative development leaders for the following positions:
Project Officer Livelihood Katakwi & Kitgum Sub Programs
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Carry out participatory needs assessments, identify appropriate livelihood interventions to increase incomes for the local community and reduce poverty in the target areas;
• Implement relevant Village Savings and Loaning (VSL) activities in local communities with emphasis on promoting group development through support, coaching, mentoring, regular feedback and identification of investment needs and opportunities;
• Ensure planning and smooth implementation of farmer field schools
• Assist in meetings and trainings with stake holders and target groups in the settlement;
Education, Knowledge & Experience
• Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Studies or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Minimum 2 years’ experience working in livelihoods or income generating projects preferably with an NGO in a refugee/IDP setting;
• A keen understanding of business and rural development issues including farmer field school approaches with skills or training rural economy is crucial to this position;
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks while working as part of a team, good planning and organizational skills coupled with problem solving capabilities, hands-on community mobilization skills, a strong selfstarter with ability to take initiative are highly desirable for this position;
Project Support Officer – Kampala Office
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist the program coordinator in Liaison with Sub program Managers to monitor the effectiveness of humanitarian operations in meeting the targets established in the PDs and other program agreements;
• Document project successes including human interest stories and regularly update the LWF Uganda website with current reports, feature stories, video clips and any other information deemed necessary
• Visits all field projects regularly to check on progress, and document feature stories, and pictures as directed by the Program coordinator
• Develop and publish newsletters, calendars, brochures and leaflets featuring program progress and feature stories in line with the agreed standards and time frame.
Minimum Qualifications:
• A University degree and related experience in humanitarian or development work is essential.
• A Post-graduate diploma in project planning and management is desirable
• Computer literacy especially website design, publisher, and other project planning & management software application.
• At least two (2) years working in project management and/or community development activities in a reputable firm, public body or NGO.
Project Officer (Integrated Act Appeal) in Kamwenge Sub Program
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Assists the Sub Program Manager in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, supervising, monitoring and evaluation of all the project activities within the assigned
sector(s);
• Develops strategies to integrate the assigned sector activities into the project, in accordance with the established LWF/DWS program policies, guidelines and procedures;
Minimum Qualifications:
• A University degree in development studies, human rights or related discipline is essential.
• Post-graduate qualification in human rights or project planning & management is desirable
• Computer literacy and proficiency in project planning & management software application
• Certificate in supervisory skills, people management and/or leadership skills is desirable.
Experience:
• At least two (2) years of programme/project management, including networking, fund raising, resource mobilization and utilisation, in a reputable firm, public body or NGO.
Counselors in Kamwenge Sub Program
Reporting to the Sub Program Manager, this position is responsible for undertaking quality psycho-social counseling support interventions to traumatized persons of concern populations with the objective of empowering them with life skills to face challenges and employ appropriate morally upright coping mechanisms for a sustainable society.
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in counseling and/social work (sciences) with a strong bias towards counseling and social work.
2 years experience in psycho-social or post trauma counseling
Other Competencies
Socio-Economic counseling skills Knowledge in Behavioral Change Communication and substance abuse prevention programming
Experience in sexual and gender based violence support counseling
Ability to tolerate cultural, educational and religious diversity in the work place
Construction Supervisor
Minimum qualifications
• A strong Background in construction
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
